Sailboat Saga – Creating the hair

Right now I’m keeping on “keepin’ on”, step by step, little by little getting all of my sculptures done for my flying sailboat. Today I’m going to show you how I created the hair for my sailor girl sculpture. Currently, she is one the sculptures that is nearing completion. Yesss!

hair for sailor girl sculptureTo create the hair, I made hair strands out of foil and hot glued them to her head. Then I permanently attached them with Apoxie sculpt. After the Apoxie cured/hardened, I surveyed the foil hair placement to see if there were any spots still in need of a strand of foil. Once the bare “hair” spots were filled in, I started to cover the foil pieces with Apoxie Sculpt.

Little by little the hair pieces eventually got covered. I have a couple of spots yet to fill in with Apoxie Sculpt. Then the hair will be “officially” done besides needing to be primed and painted.

And look at how far this sailor girl has come….from a “dressed in foil” gal to a pleated skirt dressed girl complete with a sailor’s hat. She’s is almost ready to board the boat. Stay tuned…..soon I will have an update about painting the sailboat.
